Abstract

The re-emerging archaeological focus of different countries and regions and the new importance of archaeology in international relations represent an outstanding example of the new trends of the postmodern world. On the other hand, the new presence of politics, identity and culture in the scientific researches, as well as their close connections to all archaeological endeavors, represents a trademark of the post-modernity of archaeology as scientific discipline and an excellent illustration of the wider post-modern trends in social sciences and humanities. This study illustrates the new role and importance of archaeology in the postmodern world, but its main aim is to locate the specific state of mind of the postmodern science that stimulates such global developments.
