Spectral and Cross-spectral Analysis of Weather Patterns: An Applied Perspective

Abstract

In this work, four time series, representing the average monthly maximum and minimum temperatures of the two Western cities of Sudan; Nyala and Al Fasher, are studied through the use of Frequency Domain Analysis. After checking for stationary level of all of the time series, a spectral analysis is carried out, to explore and shed light on any presence of cyclical patterns in the series. Cross-spectral Analysis is used as well, to examine and reveal any linear relationships between the different temperature series.
