A Review of Research on Tourist Motivation after the COVID-19 Pandemic
Keywords:
tourist motivation, literature review, research methods, theoretical foundations, tourist behaviorAbstract
Tourist motivation is an important issue in tourism research. With the continuous changes in tourism contexts, related studies have continued to expand in terms of methods, theories, and research content, yet the field as a whole remains relatively fragmented. This study adopts a literature review method to provide a systematic review of tourist motivation research. The findings indicate that existing studies are still dominated by quantitative methods, while qualitative research and mixed-methods research are gradually increasing. The application of theory shows a parallel trend of single-theory use and multi-theory integration. Research content mainly focuses on motivational structure and its relationship with tourist behavior. Overall, tourist motivation research has produced relatively rich findings, but it still faces problems such as methodological path dependence, insufficient theoretical integration, and inadequate depth in contextualized research. Future studies should further strengthen interdisciplinary theoretical integration, promote methodological diversification, and deepen research on tourist motivation across different tourism contexts.
